About Zoe Newton,
Candidate for District Court Judge

Zoe Newton was born in Kingston, Jamaica, on January 14, 1967. She grew up on a small farm in rural Jamaica. On the family’s farm, Zoe learned the value of hard work and developed a strong work ethic. Zoe became a legal resident of the United States and moved to the United States after she finished high school. With the exception of the birth of her children and her marriage to her wonderful husband, Zoe’s happiest moment was becoming an American citizen.

The work ethic Zoe learned on the farm served her well in her new home. She started off waiting tables and eventually became a medical office assistant. In 1991, Zoe decided she would no longer put off her goal of getting an education and enrolled in college. She attended the State University of New York in Binghamton (“Binghamton”). Zoe was determined to succeed, working a full time job at night from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and then attending school full time in the days. She graduated magna cum laude from Binghamton in 1995.

Zoe graduated from Cornell Law School where she completed a concentration in business law. Since her graduation, Zoe has worked for large law firms, as an Assistant Attorney General, and currently is Vice President and General Counsel for the Hartman Companies based in Wichita, Kansas.

Zoe is married to Gale Newton, a former coal miner, who is also a graduate of Cornell Law School. He is now Senior Counsel for a subsidiary of a large privately held company. Zoe and Gale have a beautiful family, including two children at home, a 7th grade girl and a 1st grade boy. The Newton family attends Resurrection Catholic Church.

Service

Zoe has a demonstrated tradition of service. For instance, while at Cornell, Zoe participated in her church’s Meals-on-Wheels program, bringing meals to the elderly and other shut-ins. She is an active member of the Wichita Bar Association, including serving on the Business Law Committee and on the 2012 Nominating Committee. Zoe has also served on the board of KPTS. Zoe and her daughter are both members of the Girl Scouts and her son is a Cub Scout.

An experienced litigator and business lawyer with a tradition of service, Zoe is an excellent candidate for District Court Judge.
